More than 550 e-scooters have been seized in Derbyshire, as Police officers see a marked reduction in injuries caused by e-scooters too.
Since the start of a new approach from last November, where officers seize an e-scooter on the first offence, 568 e-scooters have been seized.
Between January and July 2024, 19 injuries were reported due to collisions involving e-scooters. For the same period in 2025, that number has dropped to just nine.
The results of a day's operation in Derby, saw eight e-scooters and nine illegal e-bikes seized.
Inspector Lee Welsby said: “The proactive approach being taken by officers and PCSOs around the county is clearly having an impact.
“The seizures are working alongside an educational approach to stop people from buying e-scooters without realising that they can’t be legally used on public roads or paths – and then being left out of pocket.
“We know this continues to be a concern for many people who have had near misses with e-scooters in pedestrian areas, but these numbers demonstrate that we are working to tackle this and keep pedestrians, and the e-scooter riders, safe.”
