Fans of the spectacular autumn fair that sees rollercoasters, waltzers and dodgems invade Ilkeston’s streets are being urged to consider a more relaxing ride – by getting there by bus.
The extravaganza of family fun runs until 11pm on Saturday 19th October and as usual means town centre roads and car parks are closed.
Buses are being diverted – with temporary stops in place on Albert Street. But these mean thrill-seekers will still be whisked to within a stone’s throw of the action.
Erewash Borough Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Becca Everett, who is also Lead Member for Community Engagement, said: “With thousands attending the fair every day, finding somewhere to park is always a headache. Why face the hassle when it is so easy to catch a bus?”
TrentBarton has issued a simple map spelling out where the temporary bus stops are. It can be found online here: Ilkeston Charter Fair 2024 - trentbarton
Single tickets for most routes are capped at £2. Further savings are detailed on the company’s website.
The street fair is one of the biggest and oldest in all of Europe. It dates back to 1252 when permission to hold it was granted by King Henry III.
