Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is proud to have supported the Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity Warm Welcome Appeal contributing to the collection of over a thousand hats, gloves and scarves.
DFRS supported the charity by offering Ilkeston, Long Eaton and Kingsway (Derby) Fire Stations as collection points for the charity who were collecting the warm items for refuses in Derbyshire, with extras being sent to refuses in Calais and Syria.
Group Manager Nathan Stevens said: Our main priority as a Service is protecting our communities, which is why we were more than happy to support Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity by assisting with collections. The number of donations received has been fantastic the communities of Derbyshire have really shown their support welcoming refugees to the county by donating thousands of essential warm items of clothing to help others.
Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity are a non-political group offering support to refugees to help them start to rebuild their lives whilst waiting for the outcome of their asylum assessments. Many refugees fleeing war zones and oppressive regimes, including Afghanistan and its aftermath, arrive in the UK with next to nothing and indeed some quite literally have only the clothes on their backs.
