Erewash Borough Council has issued a statement advising members of the public that it still has money for residents who are not on the gas grid to make their homes more snug – but has emphasised the need for speed by anyone wishing to take advantage of Government funding.
The energy efficiency grants are aimed at those on low incomes and can pay for roof and wall insulation, solar panels and even heat pumps. The grants are funded by the government but a deadline for applications is looming.
To qualify, applicants must have a combined annual household income of £36,000 or less. They must have no gas central heating – and their properties need to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G.
The grants have been made available as the council works in partnership with the Midlands Net Zero Hub.
Erewash has more than 51,000 residential properties – and almost three in ten have a poor EPC rating. This compares to a national average of two in ten.
Councillor Josy Hare, who is Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “We have many homes – particularly in rural areas – that have no gas supply. They rely for heating on electricity or fossil fuels such as oil, coal or liquified petroleum gas.
These grants are designed to tackle cold and draughty houses as part of the council’s mission to help combat climate change. If residents believe they qualify I urge them to submit an application – and save money by going greener.”
