A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary has clarified what is expected from officers on patrol after two went the wrong way about taking a break in Ilkeston.
The incident took place on Bath Street in the town on Thursday 29th August and was captured on video and posted on social media prompting a public backlash as a result.
Footage suggests that two police officers drove the wrong way down a one-way street in order to get to a bakery, and, after the visit, left with their purchases upon which time, it appears that they then drove off, once more, against the flow of traffic.
Public criticism centred around the expected response from officers had a member of the public driven the wrong way down a one-way street.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said that the two officers involved had been spoken with regarding the incident adding that the expectation is that officers and staff uphold the highest possible standards but that their actions had fallen below those standards, and confirming that the matter had been dealt with proportionately.
