Long Eaton is set to lose another of its town centre bank branches after the operator announced a total of eight closures across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The town centre has already been affected after other banks announced plans to close their doors.
In detailing its announcement, NatWest referenced statistics which showed a reducing trend in the number of people visiting its branches, but said that closing branches was a decision taken very seriously.
According to a company statement, the process of 'counter transactions' - services carried out in a branch such as depositing cash and cheques or withdrawing cash - had reduced by 62% between October 2019 and October 2024, but that the number of people using its mobile app had increased by 53% over the same period.
The Long Eaton Market Place branch will close on 29th May 2025. Sites in Alfreton, Allenton and Clay Cross in Derbyshire, and Basford, Mansfield, Newark and West Bridgford in Nottinghamshire are also set to close during the course of May and June.
A statement said: "There are many other ways to continue banking with us. Banking has changed dramatically in recent years, with an increased demand for mobile and online services, as our customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank. Closing a branch is a decision we take very seriously.
"We know it can affect those less confident with alternatives we offer. We'll always work hard to guide and support you through the changes and find the best way to serve you from now on."
