Irresponsible dog owners have been sent a clear message by Erewash Borough Council - dont hide behind the clocks going back.
The menace of dog mess often gets worse during the dark nights as what the authority describes as cant be bothered owners use the cover of darkness to leave behind their pets poop.
Now the councils dog wardens are appealing to local residents to help them in the crackdown by getting in touch with as many details as possible of any known offenders including the locations and regular walk times.
Councillor Garry Hickton, Erewash Borough Councils Lead Member for Environment, said: We share the anger of residents and, of course, the vast majority of responsible dog owners who are all rightly outraged that some people think its acceptable behaviour to leave dog mess. Well, it isnt and we would hope if you are an owner who does this you will look at yourself and change your ways.
Our Neighbourhood Warden Service works hard to deal with this issue and know that the winter months usually sees an increase due to lazy owners. We need proof to be able to deal with any offender and thats where we need the publics help so we can target patrols. Times are particular important if someone knows of a repeat offender on a regular dog walk.
