A spokesman for the East Midlands Chamber has welcomed the new 2% inflation figure published on 19th June 2024 by the Office for National Statistics.
Head of Special Projects Richard Blackmore said: “This easing of inflation will support a feeling of relief in businesses who - as with consumers – have faced significant price pressures over many quarters. [The] data mirrors what we’ve found in our own research for the East Midlands. Our Quarterly Economic Survey showed a drop in respondents saying they expected to raise prices, with two-thirds anticipating prices to remain the same over the next three months. Inflation is one piece of the puzzle when it comes to supporting a healthy economy. It’s important that whatever government we have after next month’s election ensures stability becomes the norm and not the exception.”
