The Prime Minister has encouraged us all to take a staycation this year, making the most of the UKs home-grown tourist destinations.
Whilst many thousands have already headed off on holiday, new research has found that a large number of families in the East Midlands are planning to take that term very literally.
Seventy-four percent of people questioned in an Aurora survey were planning on spending their holiday time enjoying a staycation in their very own homes and gardens.
The survey also found that:
Nearly half (49 per cent) of respondents felt time in their outdoor space was beneficial for mental health.Whilst 43 per cent gardened for fitness.A quarter (27 per cent) of people in the region questioned had spent at least an hour more PER DAY in the garden than at any time pre-lockdown.Nationally, the survey found that, during lockdown a quarter of men have been spending up to three hours more per day in their gardens than they normally would. That equates to a potential 300 hours, to date, throughout lockdown.
Plus, lockdown may prove to be the seedbed for a whole new generation of gardeners. Thirty-five per cent of 16-25-year-olds have been spending time gardening.
