Erewash residents are being reminded by the borough council that if they need someone to cast a ballot on their behalf in the General Election, the deadline for proxy vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday 26th June.
The alert has gone out to those unable to vote in person when the country goes to the polls from 07:00 to 22:00 on Thursday 4th July.
You can find out how to nominate a proxy – who must also be on the electoral register – here: Apply for a proxy vote - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The rules for voting by proxy have changed. If you applied for a proxy vote before 31st October 2023, this has expired and you need to apply again.
You can also request an emergency proxy vote up until 5pm on polling day if last-minute work commitments or a medical emergency mean you cannot vote in person.
Info is here: Emergency proxy vote | Electoral Commission
