Flags flown for Armed Forces Day

A salute across the nation to honour serving and past members of the Military has seen flags hoisted in Erewash.

Mayor, Councillor Kate Fennelly was joined by veterans as Armed Forces Day flags were raised in the run-up to the annual event on Saturday 29th June.

The flag-flying ceremonies were held in both Ilkeston and Long Eaton.

The honour of hoisting the Armed Forces Day flag alongside the Union Flag at Ilkeston Town Hall was given to a Leading Sea Cadet called Rufus. An RAF veteran whose first name is Lee joined him on the balcony. The flag urges patriotic citizens: “Show Your Support.”

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday in June. It is billed as a chance for people to boost the morale of all military personnel, cadets and veterans.
