An enigmatic local tradition is to take centre stage at Erewash Museum – which is hosting two days of activities and music focused on the art of well dressing.
The ritual that is a hallmark of towns and villages across Derbyshire will start to be showcased on Friday 14th June as people get to see how a well is dressed.
On Saturday 15th June, a “folk day” will feature musicians, traditional dancing and workshops – with visitors invited to take home their own mini well dressings.
The museum is urging people to “come and join in and find out more about the origins of this fascinating art”. The free events on both days run from 11am to 3pm. An official at the award-winning museum said of Saturday celebrations: “There will be singing from the Red Lion Band plus our very own Hum, Strum and Say group.”
Refreshments will be available at the museum’s Dalby House Café. The Erewash Museum near Ilkeston Market Place is open on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm.
