A man in his 30s has died following a flat fire in Spondon on the outskirts of Derby.
Firefighters were called to the ground floor of the premises on Rovings Drive in the village at around 7:30am on Thursday 13th February.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus (BA) entered the flat and rescued the man, handing him into the care of paramedics. Sadly, the man died at the scene.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service extended the thoughts and sympathy of everyone in the Service to the family and friends of the deceased at this distressing time.
A joint police and fire investigation is currently underway. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.
Firefighters and community safety officers have been deployed to the area in the period immediately after the incident to offer fire safety advice and reassurance to residents.
