Motorbike thieves stopped due to quick thinking members of the public and a CCTV operator

Representatives from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team have offered their gratitude to members of the public who were influential in helping them return a stolen motorbike to the rightful owner.

On Monday 10th March, several people spotted males acting suspiciously near to West Park car park in the town and rang 999 to report an attempted theft. In a combined operation with the operator of a local CCTV system, it was possible to deploy an immediate response.

The thieves were traced to Tamworth Road, where they tried to make their escape but fell from the bike in their attempt and subsequently abandoned it.

A statement from Derbyshire Police thanked members of the public who they described as "extremely vigilant" and helped return the stolen bike to the owner with minimal damage and before they had even realised that it had been stolen.
