A prolific shoplifter has been jailed after he repeatedly targeted Sandiacre shops, stealing hundreds of pounds worth of items.
Ricardo Hartwright targeted the Co-op Store in Derby Road and the Costcutter in Stanton Road, as well as stealing items from Wollaton Vale Service Station, in Nottingham between April and July this year.
The 43-year-old of Albert Avenue, Stapleford in Nottinghamshire was charged on 18th July and remanded to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates court on 19th July.
He was jailed for a period of 43 weeks and handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which prohibits him from entering the Derby Road Co-op Store for a period of 3 years from its date of issue.
A CBO can be issued by any criminal court against a person who has been convicted of an offence. It can be used to tackle the most persistently anti-social individuals who are also engaged in criminal activity.
Hartwright is also prohibited from: entering any place that he had been specifically banned or excluded and remaining in any retail premises when directed to leave by staff.
Neighbourhood Investigation Officer Amy-Jayne Statham, from Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood team said: “Hartwright’s persistent offending has drawn quite a lot of attention in the local area, and we are pleased to report that he is now off the streets.
“The Criminal Behaviour Order will become particularly important once he is released from prison, because he can be arrested and potentially jailed once again if he breaches the terms of the order.
“We will be issuing posters with Hartwright’s image to local shops in due course and ask that if members of the public spot him in breach of the order they contact us.”
