The Long Eaton and District Talking Newspaper group produces a fortnightly Audio Newspaper. It is packed with news and information plus articles from well known magazines. The volunteers of the newspaper always inspire!
A number of readers are kept busy recording dozens of stories, covering seveal hours of listening plus a number of magazine programmes, once every three weeks. They record audio packages on to memory sticks that are then sent out free of charge to anyone who is blind or partially sighted within the area: Ilkeston in the north to Castle Donnington in the South, Borrowash in the west and Beeston in the east.
Two volunteers meet in one of their homes to look after the back room administration very carefully whilst respecting vital social distancing. One of the technicians prepares the master memory stick with all the stories & magazines on so that the back room team can, (once theyve deleted last recording from the 160+ memory sticks (on a clever duplicating machine) returned by our listeners), duplicate the master memory stick onto the now clean sticks. Another one of our technician posts stories to the Website & Bumblebee platforms.
If you know anyone who might benefit from the service contact Martin Sykes on 07970 914930 or visit www.longeatontn.org.uk.
