Three month closure order extended at Draycott property at the centre of anti-social behaviour incidents

A three-month closure order granted on a property in Draycott after concerns about anti-social behaviour and drug related crime has been extended into 2025.

Police Officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team previously successfully applied a closure notice on the Cleveland Avenue property on 4th September after the operation was agreed by Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court.

After the removal of occupants and subsequent sealing up using metal door and window covers, with a closure notice attached to the door, the property, was returned to the ownership of East Midlands Housing.

At the time of the closure, Spokesperson for the Long Eaton SNT, Acting Sergeant Limb said: “I have no doubt the closure order of this property will come as a huge relief to the local community who have been subjected to the unacceptable behaviour from the occupants at this address."

"We would like to thank the community for their support and hope the action from the force shows the commitment of all officers involved in making [the area] a safer, more pleasant place to live."

On 12th September, the placement of the order was confirmed by local police officers. The order prevents any person from entering the address and anyone who breaches it without reasonable excuse could be committing a criminal offence punishable by a fine and or imprisonment.

On the 29th November, South Derbyshire Magistrates Court granted permission to extend the closure order following an application from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team. 

Neighbourhood Investigation Officer Amy-Jayne Statham said: “Officers have managed to demonstrate the positive impact this order has had on the community and vulnerable residents to secure a further extension. As a result of the initial closure order, we have reduced anti-social behaviour at this location and we hope the local community, particularly those who live nearby are reassured by the ongoing work of Derbyshire Constabulary and East Midlands Housing to tackle anti-social behaviour. 

"Orders such as this can only be achieved by our work within the community, and we would like to thank them for assisting us.

The property will now be closed until 4th March 2025 at 23:59hrs.
