A Burton-on-Trent based wildlife sanctuary and rescue centre has issued a plea to those coming into contact with wild deer.
A spokesperson for the Lincoln Road based charitable organisation Linjoy, which relies on public support to offer its services, took to social media to report an increase in the amount of calls, especially those relating to evening car collisions.
Three photographs were shared online, one of which was regarding a pair of Fallow Bucks trapped in netting bordering a cricket pitch near Ilkeston, and where one buck was freed by a member of the public but the other was completely wrapped in it around the head and antlers.
Rescue worker Mark responded to a call out and was able to restrain the deer before cutting it free. Both animals then ran off into nearby woodland.
Two other instances elsewhere in the county involved deer that had been hit by cars, with one animal euthanised to prevent further suffering and another which did not survive the injuries it had sustained.
A spokesperson for Linjoy pleaded with members of the public to get advice prior to approaching injured or trapped deer stating: "They are incredibly strong and bucks/stags can cause injury and even death with their antlers." Advice to download the what3words location app was cited as not only useful in such situations but also for human medical emergencies or finding an exact location.
The A6096 between Ilkeston, Kirk Hallam, Dale Abbey, Ockbrook and Spondon is one local road signed for motorists to watch out for deer crossing the road and in the area.
