Rail operators serving Erewash warn of more disruption due to strike action

Northern Travel Calendar

Train operators serving Erewash have warned passengers to be prepared and aware of the risk of disruption to journeys as more industrial action is implemented across the railway network.

Northern, which runs services through Ilkeston Railway Station has warned passengers planning to travel by rail on Thursday 9th May that there will be no services due to the latest industrial action by ASLEF.

The union, which largely represents train drivers, has called multiple strikes on different days at train operators across the country.

As such, both, Northern customers connecting onto services with other train operators and those using CrossCountry services through Long Eaton Railway Station, are being advised to check before they travel for all journeys between Monday 6th and Saturday 11th May.

During that period, Northern has said that its services are likely to be busier than usual as people take alternative routes to avoid strikes elsewhere.

Tricia Williams, chief operating officer for Northern, said: “Unfortunately, the action by ASLEF on Thursday 9th May will see our network grind to a halt.

“On the days when strikes are taking place with other train operators, we will do everything we can to keep our services moving and absorb those extra passengers trying to travel across the region.

“We can only apologise, once again, for the disruption this action by ASLEF will cause to people in the North of England.”

On Wednesday 8th May, there will be NO CrossCountry services, and there will also be strikes covering East Midlands Railway, both of which run through Long Eaton Railway Station, so there will be severely limited options for rail travel across the East and West Midlands.

Cross Country also expects its services to be busier on Thursday 9th May due to action due to strike action on other network operators, with a risk that some will have to stand in order to travel, and is advising its customers to only travel if essential and to leave more time for their journey.

Steve Hopkinson, CrossCountry's Service Delivery Director, said: "We’re sorry to customers impacted by this latest round of industrial action. While we’re working hard to run as many services as possible over these days, there is likely to be significant disruption for people planning to travel."

Passengers who have purchased tickets before Monday 22nd April for travel between Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th are being assured that they can use them on any day between 6th and 13th May.
