Lewis Allsopp

Lewis can still remember making his own radio shows at home in the conservatory, saying that ‘"Although my only listener was my grandma, and only because she was in the room with me, it sparked my love of radio!"

Lewis joined the Erewash Sound team in 2018, originally as a Summer cover presenter as other team-members took their holidays, but never really left when the Summer was over!

He took over the Wednesday Drivetime show, Homeward Bound (as it was known back then) in the autumn of 2018.

In 2019, Lewis was awarded the Bronze award for Best Newcomer at the national Community Radio Awards - followed by Gold for Young Person of the Year in 2021 – something which he still says he can’t believe to this day!

During the coronavirus lockdown, over the Spring and Summer of 2020, he presented ‘Erewash’s Live Quiz’, a virtual event which took place via the Erewash Sound Facebook page, and helped to bring together the community at a time where we were all urged to physically stay apart.

After lockdown restrictions were eased, the quiz was brought to an end in its Facebook form, but not for too long, as, in September 2020, Lewis began to present ‘Erewash’s BIG Quiz!’, a gameshow-style show, as part of a new-look on-air Sunday schedule, which continued for the next 12 months.

From 2021 to 2023, Lewis was full-time presenter of Erewash Sound Drive as part of a new-look daytime schedule, presenting the show every weekday from 4pm. He has since gained full time employment with the BBC in London, but still appears on the schedule from time to time - usually on Saturday Afternoons.

Alongside Paul Stacey, Lewis was part of the award-winning Iron to Iron series, following cyclists from the Meldon Viaduct in Devon to our very own Bennerley Viaduct near Ilkeston, which won Live Event or Outside Broadcast of the Year at the Community Radio Awards 2022.
